In a village green where I was born,
It’s full of rice and honey.
The air is clean and mosquitoes mean,
You can get by with no money.
Then one day, the mailman came
With papers from that nation.
To take me away from here to there -
A land they called Gold Mountain.
When I got there without a care,
They looked at me real funny
Using words I didn’t understand,
In a land they called Gold Mountain.
There were cars that took you far,
And phones that brought you closer.
Everything worked according to plan.
In a land they called Gold Mountain.
There’re buses that were sardine packed
And TV shows that were sexy,
And signs that told you where you’re at,
In the land they called Gold Mountain.
Schools with guns? That ain’t no fun.
Who died? Asked the accountant.
There were days you didn’t see the sun,
In a land they called Gold Mountain.
That’s not really wise, I said:
“Sleeping on the floor as a bed,
In a room that is full of junk.
Hanging all over my head.
Wondered why I cried all night?
With no one there to listen.
I worked all day with little pay
In a land they called Gold Mountain.”
Then one day, she walked right in,
To drive away my darkness.
A girl so fine she can only be found,
In the land they called Gold Mountain.
We spend our days in total bliss,
Living in Gold Mountain.
We have each other and would never hiss
At the land they called Gold Mountain.
The buses that were sardine packed?
No, not in Gold Mountain.
Schools with guns, that ain’t no fun?
Not in my Gold Mountain.
And the days we didn’t see the sun?
Not at all in Gold Mountain.
Wanting rice and not those buns?
That’s ok in Gold Mountain.
In a room that is full of junk?
It’s clean now in Gold Mountain.
Sleep on the floor and not a bunk?
Not anymore in Gold Mountain.
What about crying all night?
No longer so in Gold Mountain.
And worked all day with little pay?
Got promoted in Gold Mountain.
Life is sweet if you can meet
The girl that lives in Gold Mountain.
Go there if you can find a seat,
A place they called Gold Mountain.
Living it and loving it,
In a land they called Gold Mountain.
A word to the wise is our advice,
Come to the land that’s no surprise.
Come today and plan to stay.
Gold Mountain is really the USA.
